THIS IS WHY EXFOLIATION IS SO IMPORTANT

Exfoliation benefits are so effective it should be a major part of every skincare routine. No beauty regimen is complete without it. Every skin type can benefit from exfoliation.

It goes way beyond just making your skin smoother. Exfoliating regularly increases blood flow and lymphatic function which can help get rid of cellulite. Exfoliation benefits a variety of skin complaints. It helps people with dry skin by removing dead skin build up so moisturizers can properly hydrate the skin. Strong exfoliation techniques are an amazing way to get rid of fine lines wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, scars and stretch marks. It's also an excellent treatment for acne because it clears away dead cells and other debris that can clog pores.

Physical exfoliation should be the main focus of any home skincare program. So often, we are told to dry out the skin with harsh chemical acne products. Although this will destroy acne-causing bacteria, it by design dries out the skin, and this usually results in not only irritated skin but also in future breakouts.

Why? Because by over-drying the skin you create a buildup of dry dead skin cells. This then acts as a barrier to trap oil, dirt and the bacteria in the skin, thereby starting a cycle of new breakouts. Exfoliating removes the dry skin build up along with the trapped oils, dirt allowing for the skin to heal and create a smooth, clear, healthy unbroken barrier.

With acne often, the real concern is not so much the actual blemishes, but rather the post breakout red, dark marks that remain on the skin long after the breakout has healed. The key to fading those post breakout marks is to increase your exfoliation.

The more you remove the surface damaged skin tissue, the more you are ridding the skin of the dark marks and encouraging the formation of new healthy (non-scarred) skin tissue. The result is more even toned skin with less scarring as well as fading of stubborn acne scars.

The last critical step after exfoliating is to use a good moisturizer. This will help the skin become a resilient unbroken barrier that will resist the drying and cracking that allows acne to get a foot hold.

Body exfoliation can also double as a lymphatic massage and it's a great way to treat bumpy chicken skin known as keratosis pilaris. In addition, regular exfoliation can remove and soften the tough skin on feet, knees and elbows.

Learning “how to exfoliate” skin properly is important. Many people use too much pressure. You'll get the best results from exfoliation by using it consistently over time. If you are looking to achieve big skin goals like stretch mark or acne scar removal, you'll need to develop a routine around aggressive exfoliation for up to a year or more.
